Village Community Hub
A Community-Led Space for Support, Belonging and Practical Help in Melton
The Village Community Hub is a planned initiative by Village Response Collective. It will provide a welcoming, culturally safe space where people in Melton can access practical support, connect with others, and feel part of a stronger local community.
The Hub will operate as a drop-in centre. People can walk in without appointments and get the support they need in a space that is easy to access, grounded in culture, and shaped by community priorities.
Why Melton Needs a Community Hub
Melton is one of the fastest-growing areas in Victoria. It is home to many communities, cultures, and families, but services are not keeping pace with the needs. Many people face barriers to accessing help.
These include long waitlists, a lack of cultural safety, language challenges, and services that are hard to navigate.
One in three residents in Melton was born overseas
Homelessness in the area increased by over 130% between 2016 and 2021
Rental stress and unemployment are above the state average
Many Pasifika, Māori, Indigenous and migrant families are not receiving the support they need
The Hub will respond to these challenges by creating a space that meets people where they are, with no judgment and no unnecessary hurdles.
What the Hub Will Offer
The Hub will be a single access point for support and connection. It will provide:
Walk-in assistance with housing, health, and social services
Help with navigating systems and finding the right support
Access to material aid such as food, clothing and household goods
A culturally safe space to sit, talk, and connect
Referrals and partnerships with local schools, legal support, health providers and community services
The Hub will focus on building relationships. It will be staffed by people who understand the community and are equipped to walk alongside others with dignity and care.
Built for Community, by Community
The Hub will be guided by a place-based model. It will be locally focused, shaped by the experiences of people living in Melton, and connected to the broader work of Village Response Collective.
Our three-year roadmap includes:
Year 1: Set up the space, recruit local staff, and start delivering core programs including material aid, system navigation and advocacy
Year 2: Respond to feedback, build new partnerships, and expand services to include employment support and school-based programs
Year 3: Strengthen the Hub’s role in the community, and grow programs that support health, education and peer mentoring
A Practical Response to Real Community Needs
Village Response Collective is a Pasifika-led organisation grounded in community knowledge, cultural safety and lived experience. The idea for the Hub came directly from community, including a key recommendation from the 2023 Pasifika Roundtable, which called for accessible, connected support designed by and for Pasifika people. The Hub responds to that call and to the clear evidence of need in Melton. It will offer a place where individuals and families can get practical help, feel safe, and be supported by people who understand their experiences.
